I was lucky enough to be sent a Welock SECBN51 Smart Lock fingerprint door lock cylinder and am now allowed to test it extensively. First of all: My opinion is not bought, and I am completely free to say what I think. I would now like to tell you about my experiences and impressions of this exciting product.

What is a smart lock?
A smart lock is an intelligent door lock that replaces your conventional key functionality with modern technologies such as fingerprint recognition, PIN codes or smartphone control. Instead of always carrying a key with you, you can open your door with a simple fingerprint, an app or a special code. This not only makes access to your home more convenient, but also more secure.
Advantages of a Smart Lock
A Smart Lock offers numerous advantages. Firstly, you no longer need a key. Who hasn't experienced this? You stand at the front door, rummage in your pocket and realize that you can't find your key. With a Smart Lock, this is a thing of the past. Secondly, security is increased. Fingerprint recognition means that only authorized persons can gain access to your home. Thirdly, flexibility. You can grant friends or family members temporary access without having to hand them a physical key.

Now let's move on to the product I was allowed to test: the Welock Smart Lock SECBN51. This model impresses with its numerous innovative functions and ease of use.
Installation of the Welock Smart Lock SECBN51
The installation of the Welock Smart Lock SECBN51 is pleasantly uncomplicated. Here is a step-by-step guide for you:
- PreparationBefore you start the installation, make sure you have all the necessary parts ready. The set includes the fingerprint door lock cylinder, a lock cylinder extension (if your lock does not meet the standard), the necessary installation material (a Phillips screwdriver, a special Allen key & a Phillip screwdriver) and an instruction manual.
- Remove old cylinderFirst remove the old door lock cylinder. To do this, you need to loosen the screw that holds the cylinder in the door. This screw is normally located on the narrow side of the door, directly below the strike plate.
- Insert new cylinderNow insert the new Welock Smart Lock cylinder into the door. The cylinder fits into most standard door locks with a cylinder depth of 55-105 mm. Make sure that the cylinder is correctly seated and aligned.
- FixingReattach the cylinder with the screw you removed earlier. Tighten the screw, but be careful not to overtighten it so as not to damage the material.
- TestingNow test whether the cylinder can be turned easily and the door can be opened and closed.
- Set up fingerprintsOnce the mechanical part is done, you can start setting up the fingerprints. To do this, follow the instructions in the Welock app. Hold the finger you want to register on the sensor several times until it is successfully saved. You can save up to 100 fingerprints, which is more than enough for the whole family and close friends.

The Welock Smart Lock SECBN51 offers a wide range of functions:
- Fingerprint recognitionYou can save up to 100 different fingerprints. This gives all family members and close friends access to your home.
- App controlWith the Welock app, you can manage the lock conveniently from your smartphone. Here you can assign access rights, add or remove fingerprints and check the status of the lock.
- Emergency openingIf the lock's battery runs out, there is an emergency power supply via a USB cable. So you'll never be locked out. The USB power bank is used for unlocking and cannot be recharged.
- Security functionsThe lock is secured against tampering and break-in attempts. It detects unauthorized access attempts and can inform you about them.
- OLED displayThe display shows the battery status, settings and notifications. The battery for the electronic button: 3 x AAA 1.5 V. With ten unlocks per day, the battery lasts 8-10 months according to the manufacturer.
- Easy locking from the insideOne of the practical functions of the Welock Smart Lock SECBN51 is the ability to easily lock the door from the inside. You simply turn the inside knob and the door is securely locked. This is particularly practical and significantly increases ease of use.
Integration and opportunities for improvement
Unfortunately, there is currently no integration of the Welock Smart Lock SECBN51 in Home Assistant. However, such integration would open up numerous other possibilities. You could then integrate the lock into your smart home system and create automated scenarios, such as automatically locking the door at certain times or unlocking it in combination with other smart home devices.

Basically, my test is very positive, as everything is very intuitive and the susceptibility to errors was virtually non-existent in my tests.
Functionality of the app
The Welock app works perfectly and offers an intuitive user interface that allows you to manage the lock conveniently. The only small point of criticism is that the translations are sometimes a little strange, but this does not affect the functionality. For example, you can program RFID cards with a temporary validity, i.e. for guests who may only be staying for a week.
Flawless unlocking and emergency functions
Unlocking the lock with a fingerprint, RFID and even via app always worked perfectly in my test. This reliability is essential as it is the lock's main function. The emergency function is particularly practical, allowing you to open the lock with a power bank and the app even when the batteries are flat. However, it should be noted that the lock uses a microUSB port and not the more modern USB-C port. The app is required for security, as otherwise anyone could simply open the door.

Conclusion
After using it for a while, I am delighted with the Welock SECBN51 Smart Lock for my front door. The fingerprint recognition works reliably and quickly. The app is intuitive and offers many useful functions. I particularly like the option of assigning temporary access rights - ideal when guests are coming or tradesmen need access.
Another plus point is the easy locking from the inside, which significantly increases ease of use. The security functions and emergency opening with a power bank are also well thought-out and practical.
A minor drawback is the lack of integration with Home Assistant and the outdated microUSB port instead of a USB-C port. However, these points do not detract from the overall very positive experience with the lock.
Overall, the Welock Smart Lock SECBN51 is a great addition to any home that values both convenience and security. I can recommend it to anyone looking for a modern and practical door lock solution.
